Invented in 2004 by visionary architect and designerJuergen Frei, Luccon® is a revolutionary material.

The world’s first commercially produced transparent concrete, the production process combines 96% solid concrete with 4% fibre optic waveguides producing a material combining the beauty of a polished marble, with unsurpassed transmission of light and colour.

Available in various thicknesses, any colour, thermally rated and veneer formats, Luccon® is a truly versatile and constantly surprising material for structural elements, internal or external features and product or furniture design.

Winner of the coveted Red Dot International design award and the IF Material Award and Designpreis, Luccon is a sought after finish found only in the most quality conscious, design focussed establishments.

During the production process, the fibre optic waveguides are layered with the fine concrete aggregate, becoming in effect a part of the concrete structure. The inclusion of waveguides has no effect on the compressive strength of the concrete. This means that Luccon® has unique dual properties of strength and light transmission with the quality of the light being maintained over distances as great as 20m.

Recent projects have included hotels in Cork and Athens, artworks in Tokyo, shopping malls in Seoul, display cabinets in Macau and benches in public parks in Singapore and Austria.

Luccon®

Luccon® is commercially available in thicknesses of 20mm up to 500mm but can be produced in thicker blocks if so required for bespoke projects.

LuccoTherm®

LUCCON BRICKS

LuccoTherm® is the thermally rated version of Luccon®, specifically developed for use on external walls. Amazingly, even with insulation, there is no loss of light transmission.

Luccon® veneer

Luccon® veneer is a wafer thin format, bendable and suitable for application on furniture and in areas that will not support a classic concrete installation.
