Glass has always held a great fascination for me; from the first paperweight I remember holding, to my grandmother's collection of European cut crystal. Glass is a material in so many forms, always surrounding and defining us.
Glass has always held a great fascination for me; from the first paperweight I remember holding, to my grandmother's collection of European cut crystal. Glass is a material in so many forms, always surrounding and defining us.
When I began making art with glass I felt, if not connected to the material, then at least mesmerized by it. I intend, with this body of work, to share this sense of wonderment with the audience by providing them with many different experiences in one piece of work. These sculptures lead two very different lives. The hot process which is intense, physically exhausting, and over before it begins; the cold which is, to me, the time when the piece begins to breathe its own breath and take shape. Working with the vessel not out of desire for function, but for the use of "vessel", as a metaphor; the most elemental and pure object.
