Conceived as an artistic response to the problem of urban decay and working on the ethos of re-appropriation of negative aspects of the city, ‘Polluted Patterns’ emerge from the surface grime by selective cleaning technologies, creating a sort of ‘Living Wall’. Light-sensitive photo catalytic white cement or paint, have been screen printed to create ‘negative’ or ‘invisible’ motifs that become visible over time, as airborne pollutants gradually discolor the unprotected areas. In the protected areas, nanotechnology breaks down pollutants in the air, preserving the surface from their pollution deposits. Tests and samples have been carried out in collaboration with CTG, the Technical Centre of Italcementi Group, who patented the photo catalytic TX Active® cement and its applications. TX Active® is a photocatalytic additive for cement products that can reduce organic and inorganic pollutants present in the air, converting them into harmless substances. [Read more...]
